Excerpt of Quantum: Part 2

Hello again readers!
Hopefully, you all know about the 'One-short-story-a-month-for-a-year' plan that I have in the form of a story called QUANTUM, a twelve part book set in the Dystopian future and Apocalyptic setting of Earth in the future. If you don't please go check out the first part, now available in the Kindle Store or www.amazon.com/author/wfmick. Its available on pretty much any digital platform and it is an exciting read. I you have not read the first part, please don't bother reading this post just yet until you read QUANTUM PART ONE, unless you want to.
I'm enclosing the only excerpt of QUANTUM PART TWO that you will get,  exclusively in this blog post to give you an idea of what to expect. I hope you enjoy!

 Quantum PART TWO Excerpt:

When Jeff came to, he found that he was lying on a large slab masquerading as a bed in a small stone room with only a single exit. The exit was currently blocked by a heavy metal door with a window in the middle on eye level, a Peace Priest standing guard on the other side. Jeff turned his head to the left. There, on the opposite wall on another slab, unconscious and looking bruised and battered within an inch of his life, was Apoxus. Jeff sat up quickly and rushed over to him.
“Apoxus,” Jeff asked quietly, gently shaking the man. “Apoxus, are you okay? Can you hear me?”
Apoxus groaned as his strange eyes opened and peered around for the voice that spoke his name. His eyes found Jeff and he actually smiled. The first time Jeff had seen him do so. It was good to know that even strange beings such as Apoxus still could feel happiness. It was one of his favorite qualities about humanity.
“It is good to look upon you Jeff.”
“What have they done to you?”
“Nothing life threatening, I assure you.” Apoxus said hoarsely, now sitting up himself. “I wish to speak to you about my coming here.”
His eyes looked into Jeff’s, and Jeff momentarily was lost in them, as if he was in space, looking upon a black hole. He shook himself from his mindless wandering and answered Apoxus.
“Sure go ahead. I’m all ears.”
But before Apoxus could speak, they heard several voices drawing nearer from the other side of the door. Seconds later, the door was pushed open and five Peace Priests entered the room, all armed with stun phasers.
